DAY 1: ISTANBUL - SARAJEVO
After completing our ticket, baggage, and boarding procedures at the International Departures Terminal of Istanbul Airport, we depart for Sarajevo on a Turkish Airlines flight. After a flight of approximately 1.5 hours, we arrive in Sarajevo local time. After passport control, we begin our city tour with our private vehicles waiting for us. With our vehicle, we arrive in front of the central library building (Vijećnica), one of the city’s landmarks, and continue our tour on foot. We see the Central Library, the Inat Kuća, whose story will surprise you when you hear it, the Latin Bridge built during the Ottoman period, and the point where the assassination of Austrian-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife took place, an event that caused the outbreak of World War I. Our tour continues with the sebil, a tradition in the Ottoman Empire, and Sebilj Square, named after this structure, and continues through the streets of Baščaršija, which still preserve their historical structure. Among the other sights we will see are the Gazi Husrev Bey Mosque and Clock Tower (the only clock in the world with a muvakkithane that shows the time according to the Islamic calendar), the Kuršumli Medresa, the Morić and Kolobara Inns. Then we move on to Ferhadija, the city’s most popular avenue, where our tour continues with buildings reflecting the architecture of the Austro-Hungarian Empire period, the Catholic Cathedral, Markale Market, and the covered market area (a market where Bosnian cream, dried meat, sausages, and Travnik cheese are sold), ending at the “Eternal Flame” Monument built in memory of the victims of World War II. Free time after our tour. Overnight at our hotel.
DAY 2: SARAJEVO
After breakfast, full day at leisure. We recommend you taste Bosnian burek, ćevapi, tufahija dessert, and dibek coffee. Guests who wish may join our optional excursions. Overnight at our hotel.
Optional Tour: Including Lunch, Mostar - Počitelj Tour : 60 Euro
Guests who wish may join the full-day Mostar-Počitelj optional tour organized by our guides. On this tour, we depart from our hotel by private bus and head towards Mostar. Upon arrival in Mostar, the most important structure we will see on our panoramic city tour will be the city’s landmark, Mostar Bridge. Spanning the Neretva River, which runs through the heart of the city, the Mostar Bridge, built in 1566 by Mimar Hayrettin, one of Mimar Sinan’s students, using 456 cut stones, is an Ottoman masterpiece under UNESCO protection and unique in the world for its architectural features, important enough to give the city its name. The bridge was destroyed in November 1993 as a result of days of shelling by Croatian artillery. Rebuilt by a Turkish company with the support of the Republic of Turkey, especially the World Bank, and using the original stones extracted from the river, by Turkish masters, the bridge was reopened in 2004. Walking through the old city of Mostar, along narrow cobblestone streets, passing through works that preserve the authentic architecture of the period, mosques, baths, shops, and buildings adorned with slate-covered roofs, we arrive at the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, another important sight and also one of the best spots to take photos of the bridge. After lunch, free time for shopping and personal exploration until the meeting time announced by our guide. We gather at the stated time and head to our second stop, Počitelj. Počitelj, an Ottoman village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, came under Ottoman rule in 1471 and maintained its strategic importance until 1878, when it was lost. You can take very beautiful photos in this village, one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture. After a tea and coffee break here, we head back to Sarajevo.
Optional Tour: Bosnian Night Tour : 45 Euro
In the evening, guests who wish may join the dinner Bosnian Night tour organized as an extra by our guides. We will experience an unforgettable night with our dinner at one of Sarajevo’s authentic and lively restaurants, accompanied by local music and folklore.
