DAY 1. ISTANBUL – ROVANIEMI – SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE – NORTHERN LIGHTS

We depart from Istanbul for Rovaniemi at 09:45 in the morning on a scheduled Turkish Airlines flight. We arrive in Rovaniemi at 13:25. At the airport, we depart first for Santa Claus Village by our waiting bus.

VISIT TO SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE

Santa Claus Village is known as Santa Claus’s home and is especially popular during the winter months. It is famous for its traditional Lappish houses and snow-covered landscapes. Visitors can visit Santa Claus’s home and convey their special wishes. They can also send cards from Santa Claus’s post office to themselves or their loved ones using the red mailboxes, timed to arrive by the next Christmas. The village is filled with souvenir shops, local handicrafts, and Christmas-themed cafés. A wonderful place for people of all ages to experience the magical atmosphere of Christmas, Santa Claus Village is located at the point where the Arctic Circle passes, marked by a blue line of light. After our visit to Santa Claus Village, we depart for our hotel in Rovaniemi city center. Before checking into the hotel, we stop by the safari office to collect the thermal clothing we will use during our safaris and tours.

ICE HOTEL VISIT, DINNER, AND NORTHERN LIGHTS

After checking into the hotel and taking a short rest, we depart for the Ice Hotel. The Ice Hotel is a popular attraction open to visitors every day from December 15 to April 1. It is one of the largest snow hotels located on the Arctic Circle. The Snow Hotel is built differently every year and decorated with ice and snow art. Visitors can explore rooms made of ice, ice sculptures, the Ice Bar, and the Ice Restaurant. After the visit, we have dinner in the Kota, a traditional Lappish house belonging to the Ice Hotel, with salmon cooked over a wood fire as the main course. If we are lucky and the weather is clear, we will have the chance to see the northern lights. We return to our hotel late in the evening.

DAY 2. ROVANIEMI – HUSKY AND REINDEER SAFARIS

After breakfast, we depart for a husky and reindeer farm.

Husky Safari

We arrive at the husky farm and visit huskies, some of the most adorable dogs in the world. Today, we will learn how to guide our own husky team and enjoy an unforgettable sledding experience with these lovely friends. We then rest around the fire in a traditional Lappish hut (kota), accompanied by hot drinks. After the husky tour, we continue to the reindeer farm.

Reindeer Safari

After learning about reindeer from our local guide, we take a tour through the snow-covered forest in sleds pulled by reindeer. Following this unforgettable experience, we spend pleasant moments around the burning fire and receive a “Reindeer Driving Certificate” at the end of the tour. Afterwards, we have lunch consisting of sautéed reindeer, a traditional dish of Lapland.

NORTHERN LIGHTS BY BUS

If you were unable to see the northern lights the previous night, this evening we travel by bus to an open area away from the city lights or to the shore of a frozen lake, hoping to see the northern lights on a second attempt. After our 3-hour northern lights tour by bus, we return to the hotel.

DAY 3. ROVANIEMI – FREE DAY (OPTIONAL ICEBREAKER TOUR)

Free day in Rovaniemi. Guests who wish may participate in the optional icebreaker tour.

ICEBREAKER SHIP TOUR – EUR 500 per person

After breakfast, we depart for the icebreaker activity to the Swedish city of Kalix, located 170 km from Rovaniemi. During our journey, we cross the Sweden–Finland border and arrive at Axelsvik Port. During our 3-hour journey on the world’s largest tourist icebreaker ship, you will witness how the ice on the frozen sea is broken. Halfway through our journey, in the middle of the ice-covered sea, we put on thermal suits specially designed for survival in cold waters and to keep us afloat, and swim in the pool created by the ship breaking through the ice. Following our tour, listed by National Geographic among the activities that should be tried before you die, we go to Kukkolaforsen, a Swedish fishing town, for lunch. After lunch, we return to Rovaniemi and have free time for dinner.

DAY 4. ROVANIEMI – SNOWMOBILE – ISTANBUL

Snowmobile Safari

This morning, we will take an unforgettable snowmobile tour through frozen river valleys and snow-covered forests. During the journey, we will enjoy the frozen landscape and take breaks with hot drinks. There are two people per snowmobile, and you can change drivers halfway through the route.
