On the first day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour with Dgn Travel, we will meet with our guide at Mardin Aziz Sancar Airport after our morning flight. After having breakfast in Mardin, we start our day. We begin our amazing tour in the historic streets of Old Mardin, where we will experience different periods of history with every step. Our first stops will be the last Artuqid work in Mardin, the crown gate, and the impressive Latifiye Mosque. After that, we take a photo break in Cumhuriyet Square. Passing through the small tunnels (Abbara) that connect cultural streets and narrow alleys, we will transition through different time periods. Walking through the narrow streets, we reach the Zinciriye Medrese (Sultan Isa Medrese), one of the best places to admire the view of Mardin and the Mesopotamian landscape.

Walking amidst the buildings that embody the blend of different beliefs with walls, doors, and door adornments, we arrive at the Mardin Ulu Mosque, a significant structure from the Artuqid period. Notably recognized for its segmented dome and particularly its minaret, we visit Ulu Mosque alongside our guide and see the bazaar of coppersmiths. Subsequently, we view the Historical PTT Building (Şahtana Mansion), built in 1890 by the Şahtana Family with the designs of Armenian Architect Lole. Then, we take a coffee break at the majestic view of Şehidiye Mosque, built in the 13th century, where we relax while enjoying the Mesopotamian landscape. Afterward, we have our lunch. Next, we engage in a visit to the Mardin Living Museum, where we can see arts such as lead pouring, filigree, copperworking, and the Reyhani dance being showcased live, representing the historical and cultural richness of Mardin.

Next, we visit the Sakıp Sabancı City Museum, showcasing the city's history with diverse religious and cultural differences through reenactments and photographs, leaving no questions regarding Mardin's richness. After completing our visit to this comprehensive museum, we meet back with our vehicle. Our final site for the day is Kasımiye Medrese, which reflects both Artuqid and Akkoyunlu periods. After receiving information about the medrese, we gather back at our vehicle and head to our hotel for some rest.

For visitors who wish to witness the Mardin nightlife known as "Gündüz Seyranlık Gece Gerdanlık", and to participate in the Reyhani entertainment, we will meet at a designated time set by our guide to crown our day.

Day 2

Dara Ancient City – Nusaybin – Mor Yakup Church – Zeynel Abidin Tomb – Beyazsu - Kafro Village - Mor Gabriel Monastery - Mağaraköy – İdil - Haberli Village – Midyat

On the second day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour with Dgn Travel, after having breakfast at the hotel, we leave the hotel and head to Dara Ancient City, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. Dara Ancient City, located in Oğuz Village, 30 km southeast of Mardin, is one of the most important settlements of Upper Mesopotamia. We visit the Dara Ancient City, consisting of rock-cut structures and sprawling over a wide area, accompanied by our guide. After our visit to Dara Ancient City, we proceed to Nusaybin, which is at the zero-point of the border.

Nusaybin, an important city in Mesopotamia with a history of about 7000 years and a 4000-year name history, has parts of an uninterrupted settlement area both in Syria and in Turkey. We visit the Mor Yakup Church, the largest school in Mesopotamia. After receiving information about Mor Evgin and Mir Osman, we visit Zeynel Abidin Complex. After learning about the complex containing the tombs of Zeynel Abidin and his sister Sitti Zeynep from our guide, we transfer to our vehicle to move to a different geography. We reach Beyazsu, which springs from the base of the plateau and hills south of Midyat. In the barren, treeless geography of Mardin, we take a tea and coffee break at Beyazsu, surrounded by its cool and crystal-clear water and greenery. Following this, we move to Kafro (Pizza) Village, a different settlement area in the Southeast. After having our lunch, we continue our tour.

We proceed to Mor Gabriel Monastery located within the boundaries of Midyat. (Will be visited if sufficient time and conditions allow.) As one of the major structures of the Syriac Ancient Community, the monastery is placed on a high hill covered with oak trees. Founded in 397 by Mor Şmuel and Mor Şemun, we explore the monastery escorted by our guide. Known as “Dayro d’Umro” in Syriac, its name derives from the meaning “Home of the Monks”. After visiting the monastery, we move to Mağaraköy (Kiwex) located in Şırnak borders, a village where the Yazidis lived for centuries according to their beliefs and lifestyles, now completely abandoned. The village takes its name from caves dug and used beneath the houses. We receive information about Yazidi culture from our guide, and the village texture, scent, cemetery area, and house structure will take you to a moment where time has stood still. After some free time, we head to Haberli (Basibirin) Village, a Syriac village. The presence of 23 churches here will give you an idea of the village's past vibrancy and density. We will visit the Mor Eşayho Church, one of the open churches, along with our guide. This village, entirely inhabited by Syriacs, has produced 3 patriarchs, 3 patriarch assistants, and 31 metropolitans. After exploring and receiving information in the village, we enjoy a tea at the village café, chatting with the locals before we bid farewell.

  • Lunch: Will be taken in Kafro. (Extra)
  • Dinner: Will be taken at the hotel. Included in the tour fee.

Day 3

Midyat Guesthouse – Hercai Mansion - Bethil Church - Midyat Markets – Hasankeyf – El Rızk Mosque – Zeynel Bey Tomb – Hasankeyf Boat Tour – Batman - Istanbul

On the last day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour with Dgn Travel, after having breakfast at the hotel, we will wander through the streets of Midyat, where many films and series such as Uzak Şehir, Salkım Hanım’s Taneleri, Hükümet Kadın, Berivan, Büyü, Ay Lav Yu, Aşka Sürgün, and Bir Bulut Olsam have been filmed, and you won’t feel out of place. We visit the Midyat Guesthouse. Afterward, we visit a filigree workshop to see examples of filigree art, which has been developed by Syriac masters over the years and has become a cultural hallmark, and we will engage in shopping. After our filigree purchases, we see the Bethil Church, the only Protestant church in Midyat. Then, we provide free time for walking through the historic Midyat Houses, shopping, and having lunch.

After our lunch break, we visit Hasankeyf, a historic area dating back 12,000 years. Due to the definitive establishment of the Ilısu Dam, a new settlement was built 3 km away since February 2020, when Hasankeyf was submerged. During this visit, we will jointly share in the sorrow of Hasankeyf as we view the still-impressive Hasankeyf Castle, the Minaret of El Rızk Mosque, and the caves. We will have free time, during which our guests can join a boat tour to closely observe the old Hasankeyf, which can be seen rising above the Ilısu Dam (Extra).
