Once a city shining with endless splendor and shaped by the winds of history, Rome has hosted the magnificence of emperors, the courage of gladiators, and the highest forms of art. In the Middle Ages and during the Renaissance, it was used as a kind of prison and papal fortress. Another site we will see in Rome is the Colosseum, carrying the spirit of ancient times in the heart of the city. In this gigantic arena, brave gladiators and wild animals engaged in epic battles, cheered by the public. Hadrian’s Temple, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps with its 135 steps, and the famous St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City will also be among the places to see. Day 5 FLORENCE – (SIENA – SAN GIMIGNANO – PISA)
After breakfast, there is free time. For those who wish, they can join the extra Tuscan tour (Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa) (100 euros) organized by our guide. Our first stop on the tour is the romantic Italian city of Pisa, known worldwide for the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The famous tower stands in the Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracles Square) and is dazzling, along with the magnificent Duomo Cathedral made of white marble and the Baptistery. Each of these showcases the artistic and architectural wealth of medieval Italy. After seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the adjacent Miracoli Square, we head to San Gimignano. When you enter the medieval town of San Gimignano, the first thing that will catch your attention will be the towers. There were once 72 towers, but now only 14 remain. These towers were built to showcase the power and wealth of old rich families. The Piazza del Duomo square is the center of social and religious life in the town. Here lies the San Gimignano Cathedral, built in the 12th century. Inside, you can see extraordinary frescoes that reflect the spirit of medieval Italy. Right next to the cathedral is the Town Hall (Palazzo del Popolo). Our next stop is the Piazza della Cisterna square, which takes its name from a historic water reservoir in the center. This enchanting square, with its stone buildings and historical structures, gives a feeling of walking in a time tunnel. The heart of Bologna is Piazza Maggiore, the city's social and cultural center, surrounded by many important structures. The San Petronio Basilica is one of Italy's largest churches, known for its magnificent Gothic architecture. Next to it is the Palazzo d’Accursio, the city's town hall. Just beside Piazza Maggiore is the Fountain of Neptune. This bronze statue, created in the 16th century, depicts the sea god Neptune and is a great photo spot. One of Bologna's iconic structures is the Asinelli and Garisenda towers. These two leaning towers are part of the city's medieval heritage. You can climb the Asinelli Tower to see the city from a magnificent view. Climbing the stairs can be a bit tiring, but the view from the top is definitely worth it. The Quadrilatero (old market), the Old Stock Exchange Building, and the University of Bologna, which is Europe’s first university building, are among the places to see. After our Bologna tour, we arrive at Tronchetto square in Venice and transfer by water taxi to St. Mark's Square for a panoramic city tour. In our city tour, we will see the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge over it, the Doge's Palace, the Bell Tower, and the Giorgio Maggiore Church.
