Dear guests, we are departing with our Dgn Travel bus to Edirne, a border city where the cultural heritage of the Ottoman Empire is most intensely felt, with its mosques, bazaars, bridges, and historical houses in Thrace. After visiting the famous Üç Şerefeli Mosque, the old Ulu Mosque known for its inscriptions, and the Selimiye Mosque, which Mimar Sinan called his "Masterpiece" (only the sections open for visitation due to restoration will be accessible), we will have free time to explore and purchase Edirne's famous Deva-i Misk sweet, marzipan, Edirne cheese, the traditional mirror bride broom (aynali gelin supurgesi), and local fruit soaps. After free time, we will proceed to the Karaağaç tour, connecting Edirne with a 4 km historical and natural path, visiting the Historical Meriç Bridge, the Lozan Monument, and the Train Station. Following this, we will have a tea break at a Kır café for those who wish. After our (optional) lunch by the Meriç River, we will visit the Bucuk Tepe Battery, the Şükrü Paşa Monument, the Balkan War Museum, and the Sırpsındığı War Museum, examples of military architecture where the defense of Edirne took place during the Second Balkan War. After visiting the II. Beyazid Complex Health Museum, which treated patients with the sound of water, music, and pleasant scents in the 16th century and received the European Museum Award from the Council of Europe in 2004, we will explore the Palace Inner, the Historic Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling Arena, the Justice Pavilion, the Fatih and Palace Bridges, as well as the remnants of the Edirne Palace where Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Cem Sultan were born and reigned, including Babüssade, Palace Kitchens, Cihannüma Pavilion, Kum Pavilion, and Bath, and the Balkan Martyrs’ Memorial. Afterwards, at Kırkpınar Square within the Palace, we will participate in the KAKAVA FESTIVITIES, which begin with lighting the KAKAVA FIRE, heralding the arrival of spring. We will have free time to engage in the Kakava Festivities where the Roma celebrate spring with music and dance. At the time determined by our guide, we will gather with our vehicle and then depart for Istanbul. In the evening, we will drop you off at the points we picked you up from, hoping to see you at the next Dgn Travel tour.
