Tour details
1st Day: Çeşme – Chios Island We meet at 08:00 in the check-in office at the entrance of Çeşme customs port for the Chios Island tour. After passport control, our pleasant journey across the blue waters of the Aegean begins at 09:20. Upon arriving at Chios Island port and completing the entry procedures, we meet at our office and begin exploring Chios, the hidden treasure of the Aegean. Together with our guide, we will visit the APLOTERYA, the island’s bazaar, the MECIDIYE Mosque built by Sultan Abdulmecit, the VOUNAKI SQUARE, the largest and busiest square on Chios, and then the CHIOS CASTLE, which was built during the BYZANTINE period and later became the administrative center of the island during the GENOESE and OTTOMAN periods, as well as the OTTOMAN structures inside it. Afterwards, we begin our North Island tour. Our first stop is the 4 windmills by the sea (TABAKİKA), one of the island’s most important symbols on every platform. The historic windmills were used to draw water to the tanneries (tabakika), which gave the area its name. After the photo break here, we continue our tour. Our next stop is DASKALOPETRA, the area where Homer, the island’s most famous poet in antiquity, is said to have brought the Iliad and the Odyssey into world literature. A large rock that was turned into a school by his students in the 6th century BC. This beautiful landmark will make you question the lifestyle and artistic understanding of thousands of years ago. Then we take our lunch break in LANGADA, the island’s most charming fishing village. In the classical Greek tavernas by the sea, you will have the chance to taste traditional mezes, classic Greek dishes, and the freshest seafood. On the way back, we stop for a photo at AGIOS ISIDOROS church on the sea, one of the island’s symbolic spots. It is said that the story of mastic begins with this saint. After this stop, we return to the hotel and have free time. North Island and Chios Island City Tour Included! 2nd Day: Chios Island – Çeşme After breakfast, we take our seats in the vehicle and head toward the villages in the south of the island, known as MASTIHAHORIA, which holds the monopoly on the production of mastic in the world. Our first stop on the tour is ARMOLIA village, famous for its handmade ceramics for hundreds of years, where we will make a short stop to visit one of the well-known ceramic workshops. Our next stop is MESTA, one of the many medieval castle-villages on Chios Island, which has preserved its architectural structure to the present day in the best way. It takes us on a journey back in time to the 13th century, when it was built. We walk through its maze-like narrow streets to the village square in the center and take a coffee break. After visiting the Church of the Taxiarchis, we leave the village. Our next village is PYRGI, unique in the world with the geometric patterns on its houses. Our guide provides detailed information about this technique called ksista, which has been applied for centuries from the Genoese to the present day. Then we go to a seaside tavern for lunch.
