1st DAY: ISTANBUL – SANTIAGO (CHILE) 20:35 The Great Journey Begins. Our immense journey to the mystical geography of South America begins with our meeting with the tourism representatives at Istanbul Airport International Terminal. We depart at 20:35 on Turkish Airlines’ comfortable, wide-body aircraft bound for Santiago, the capital of Chile, which blends modern and historic faces. During this long but exciting intercontinental flight of approximately 18 hours, we spend the night in the sky accompanied by THY’s world-class catering and in-flight entertainment systems. 2nd DAY: SANTIAGO A Modern Metropolis in the Shadow of the Andes. In the morning we arrive at Santiago International Airport. After customs and passport procedures, we meet our private vehicle and set off to explore the city. At Plaza de Armas, considered the heart of Chile, we see the finest examples of colonial architecture, the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral, and the historic Post Office building. Then we make a panoramic visit to the Government Palace, “La Moneda,” the country’s most important political landmark and a structure bearing the traces of the 1973 coup. The highlight of our city tour is San Cristobal Hill, where we can admire the city like a painting. From here, we will witness the magnificent contrast of modern skyscrapers on one side and the endless snowy Andes Mountains on the other. After the tour, we check in to our hotel and enjoy free time to recover from the long journey. LUNCH AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT Accommodation: Santiago 3rd DAY: VALPARAISO & VINA DEL MAR The Colorful Spirit of the Pacific Ocean. After breakfast at our hotel, we head toward the Pacific coast. After a pleasant journey of about 1.5 hours, we arrive in Valparaiso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Chile’s most important port city. It is famous for its steep hills, historic elevators (funiculars), and graffiti that turns its walls into works of art. As we walk through these streets that inspired Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda, you will feel as if you are in an open-air museum. After Valparaiso, we visit its neighboring city Vina del Mar, known as the “Garden City” for its luxury beaches, palm-lined avenues, and well-kept parks. On this excursion with the ocean breeze, we see the city’s iconic Flower Clock (Reloj de Flores). In the evening, we return to Santiago accompanied by sunset views over the Andes. LUNCH AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT Accommodation: Santiago 4th DAY: SANTIAGO | Personal Explorations and Free Time in the City We reserve today as a free day for you to explore Santiago, one of South America’s most modern and secure capitals, as you wish. After breakfast, our guests who have become familiar with the city may leave the hotel to experience Santiago’s different faces. Suggestion: Art-loving guests may visit “La Chascona,” the eccentric hilltop house of Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda, or spend time in the colorful streets of the bohemian Bellavista district. Shopping and Gastronomy: The artisans’ village of Los Dominicos, where you can find Chile’s world-famous wines and local handicrafts, will be a great stop. For lunch, the historic Mercado Central is an ideal choice for those wanting to try fresh seafood. Dinner and accommodation will again be at our hotel in Santiago. Accommodation: Santiago 5th DAY: SANTIAGO – CALAMA – SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA A Moon Journey in the World’s Driest Desert In the early morning, around 07:00, we depart from Santiago Airport and fly to Calama, the mining city in northern Chile. Upon arrival, we meet our private vehicle and travel through red earth and endless plains for about 1.5 hours toward San Pedro de Atacama, the heart of the desert. After a short check-in at our hotel and a lunch break, we begin our tour of Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), one of the region’s most enchanting places: Walking on the Moon Surface: As we walk among salt and sand formations shaped by wind and water over millions of years, you will feel as if you are on another planet. Salt Sculptures and Caves: We will see the natural masterpiece known as “Las Tres Marias” (The Three Marys) and discover the mystery of crystalized salt caves. Death Valley (Valle de la Muerte): We will witness the dramatic scenery created by huge sand dunes and sharp cliffs. Sunset Ceremony: We experience the most unforgettable moment of the day at the viewpoint where the sun sets over the Andes, painting the desert in countless shades of pink, orange, and purple. After the excursion, we return to our hotel to rest in San Pedro’s adobe-style, authentic streets and breathe in the silence of the desert night. Accommodation: San Pedro de Atacama 6th DAY: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA – HITO CAJON – UYUNI (BOLIVIA) Border-Crossing Journey at the Summit of the Andes *We will have a very long journey* 7 hours* Today, we bid farewell to Chile’s red deserts and cross into Bolivia’s Altiplano, one of the world’s highest and most impressive plateaus. Early in the morning, we leave San Pedro de Atacama and arrive at the Chile-Bolivia border crossing of Hito Cajon. After passport procedures, we transfer to our 4x4 off-road vehicles (jeeps) and step into Bolivia’s surreal nature. Along the Way We Will See These Natural Wonders: Laguna Verde (Green Lake): Our first stop is this emerald-green lake at the foot of Licancabur Volcano, glowing jade thanks to its minerals. Salvador Dali Desert: We stop for photos among wind-shaped rock formations and colorful hills that resemble the paintings of the famous artist. Laguna Colorada (Red Lake): Home to thousands of James’s flamingos, this red lake will enchant you with its color and be one of the most unforgettable points of our journey. Our journey continues toward Colchani, located on the edge of the Uyuni salt flats, to acclimatize to the high altitude and ensure a safe rest. After dinner, we stay in one of the region’s most comfortable and secure “Salt Hotels,” built entirely from blocks of salt. Accommodation: Uyuni / Colchani (Salt Hotel) Crystal Samana Hotel 7th DAY: SALAR DE UYUNI An Infinity Experience on the World’s Largest Mirror After breakfast at our hotel, we set off in our 4x4 vehicles to explore Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat with an area of approximately 10,500 square kilometers. Today will be a day dominated by optical illusions and otherworldly landscapes. Stops of the Day: Train Cemetery (Cementerio de Trenes): We take our first photos in the dystopian atmosphere created by huge abandoned steam locomotives from the 19th century standing in the middle of the desert. Colchani Village: We observe the local people’s traditional salt-processing methods and examine handicrafts made from salt. Incahuasi Island (Giant Cacti): This volcanic island in the middle of the salt sea is covered with giant cacti reaching up to 10 meters tall and offers us a 360-degree view of Salar’s endless whiteness. Salt Eyes (Ojos de Sal): We see the cold springs that bubble up from beneath the salt crust and the geological wonders of nature. Lunch: We enjoy one of the world’s most unique dining experiences with a specially prepared “Picnic Lunch” in the middle of Salar, surrounded by endless whiteness. Perspective Photos and Sunset: We will have free time to take fun perspective photos thanks to the depth created by the salt flat. As the day ends, we watch the sunset over Salar, which turns into a mirror with the reflection of the sky, accompanied by local wine. Accommodation: Uyuni / Colchani (Salt Hotel) 8th DAY: UYUNI – LA PAZ The World’s Highest Capital and the Earthly Signature of the Moon At dawn we transfer to Uyuni Airport and depart at 07:30 for La Paz, Bolivia’s administrative capital, the city above the clouds. After a flight of about 1 hour, we arrive at El Alto, the world’s highest international airport. After leaving the airport, we begin our tour to explore this vertical, chaotic, yet equally fascinating city: Cable Car (Mi Teleférico) Experience: The best way to explore La Paz is to ride the cable cars, which are not only a modern transportation network but also offer magnificent views. As we glide above the city, we take in the vast settlement beneath the shadow of the snow-capped Illimani peak in the Andes. Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas): We step into the mystical world of Aymara culture. From dried llama fetuses to medicinal herbs, traditional amulets, and colorful textiles, we see many intriguing items together. Plaza Murillo: In the city’s main square, we view the Government Palace, Parliament Building, and Cathedral from the outside and take a brief journey into Bolivia’s political history. Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna): We head to this natural wonder about 10 km from the city center. As we walk among the huge spires, labyrinths, and bizarre landforms created by the erosion of clay and sandstone, we will feel as if we are miles away from Earth. After our city tour, we have free time to get to know La Paz’s unique character more closely and try local flavors. LUNCH AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT Accommodation: La Paz 9th DAY: LA PAZ – CUSCO (PERU) Journey to the Sacred Capital of the Incas After a final enjoyable breakfast and some free time in La Paz, we head to Peru. In the afternoon, we transfer to La Paz Airport and depart Bolivia on Avianca flight at 15:50. After a comfortable flight of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, we arrive around 16:05 in Cusco, the legendary capital of the Inca Empire, known as the “center of the world.” Rest and Acclimatization: Since Cusco is located at an altitude of approximately 3,400 meters above sea level, upon arrival we transfer directly to our hotel. We spend the rest of the day as free time to allow our bodies to acclimate to the altitude and rest before the intensive Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley tours in the coming days. Guests who wish may sip the famous coca tea at the hotel to shake off fatigue or take a short walk for dinner through Cusco’s colonial, softly lit romantic streets. Accommodation: Cusco 10th DAY: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO Journey to the Mystery of the Lost City of Machu Picchu Today, we depart early to explore the legendary “Lost City” of Machu Picchu, the pinnacle of Inca civilization. Sacred Valley and Train Journey: In the morning we travel by private vehicle to Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved villages in Inca history. From there, we board the comfortable tourist train and enjoy a pleasant journey of about 1.5 hours along the Urubamba River, with stunning views of the Andes and tropical forests, until we reach Aguas Calientes. Machu Picchu Exploration: A short bus ride from the town takes us to Machu Picchu, discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham and the most important religious and astronomical center of the Incas. Accompanied by our professional guide, we tour the Sun Temple, the Room of the Three Windows, Intihuatana (the place where the sun is tied), and the agricultural terraces. We collect unforgettable memories in the mystical atmosphere of this engineering marvel among the clouds. Free Time: After the tour, we have free time to spend on our own in this enchanting ancient city, take photos, and feel the energy. Return Journey: In the afternoon we descend again by bus to Aguas Calientes, then return by train to Ollantaytambo. With the vehicle waiting for us at the station, we arrive at our hotel in Cusco in the evening. After all the distance and climbing covered today, we rest in Cusco’s peaceful atmosphere in the evening. Accommodation: Cusco LUNCH AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT 11th DAY: CUSCO – PUERTO MALDONADO Entrance to the Amazon Rainforest and the Voice of Wildlife In the morning we go to Cusco Airport and take a short flight to Puerto Maldonado, where tropical climate prevails. After being welcomed at the airport, we leave our main luggage in the city office’s secure area and proceed to the river port with only small bags containing the items needed at the forest camp. River Journey: On a motorized canoe trip of about 45 minutes on the Madre de Dios River, we reach our Eco-Lodge deep in the river and close to nature. Lodge Check-In: After being welcomed with tropical fruit, we settle into our bungalows in the heart of the forest. Night Exploration: Before dinner, accompanied by our guide, we set out on an exciting river or forest walk to see the creatures that awaken at night in the forest, such as caimans, giant spiders, and night birds. Accommodation: Amazon Eco-Lodge 12th DAY: AMAZON RAINFORESTS (FULL-DAY EXPLORATION) A Day in the Heart of Biodiversity We dedicate today to exploring the unique biodiversity of the Amazon. Canopy Walk: We walk on suspension bridges set among the treetops of giant trees in the upper layer of the forest, experiencing the forest from above. We observe parrots and monkeys in their natural habitat. Sandoval Lake: In the depths of the forest, we glide silently by canoe on this famous lake, home to giant otters and hundreds of bird species. Ethnobotanical Tour: Our local guide shares information about the medicinal plants used for thousands of years by Amazonian indigenous peoples and the mysterious world of giant trees. Accommodation: Amazon Eco-Lodge 13th DAY: PUERTO MALDONADO – LIMA From the Forest to the Modern Capital After breakfast accompanied by the forest’s enchanting chorus, we return to Puerto Maldonado city by canoe. After collecting our luggage from the office, we transfer to the airport and fly to Lima, Peru’s gastronomic capital. Upon arrival, we check in to our hotel in Lima. In the evening, you will have free time to taste Peruvian cuisine in this city that hosts some of the world’s best restaurants. Accommodation: Lima 14th DAY: LIMA – BOGOTA (COLOMBIA) From Lima, the City of Kings, to Bogota, the Capital of El Dorado After breakfast at our hotel, we begin our tour of Lima, a city on the Pacific coast that perfectly blends history and modernity. Historic Center (UNESCO): We visit Plaza Mayor, the heart of Lima, where we see the finest examples of Spanish colonial architecture, the Government Palace, City Hall, and the famous buildings with magnificent wooden balconies, then tour the historic San Francisco Monastery, known for its underground catacombs. Modern Lima (Miraflores & Barranco): We take a pleasant walk through Miraflores, set atop dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and stop for photos at the famous “Park of Love” (Parque del Amor). Depending on time, we also visit Barranco, the bohemian face of the city, famous for its art galleries and graffiti. Gastronomy Break: Before heading to the airport, we have free time to experience Lima’s world-famous cuisine. After our city tour, we transfer to Lima Airport. On Avianca flight at 17:35, we bid farewell to Peru and depart for Bogota, the capital of Colombia. After a flight of approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes, we arrive in Bogota at 20:50. After being welcomed at the airport, we check in to our hotel. We retreat to our rooms to rest before tomorrow’s big Bogota discovery. Accommodation: Bogota 15th DAY: BOGOTA A Colonial Fairy Tale and the Legend of Gold at the Summit of the Andes Today, we explore Bogota, Colombia’s cultural and political heart, located at an altitude of 2,640 meters, step by step. Monserrate Hill: We begin the day by ascending by cable car (or funicular) to Monserrate Hill, the city’s symbol, at 3,152 meters. From here, we enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Bogota’s endless panorama while breathing in the cool air of the Andes. We visit the white church and local market on the hill. La Candelaria (Historic District): In this area, considered the heart of the city, we walk among narrow cobblestone streets, colorful colonial houses, and creative graffiti. In this neighborhood where history and art intertwine, you will feel as if you are in a time machine. Plaza de Bolivar: In this magnificent square, the political center of the country, we hear from our guide about Colombia’s independence story while seeing the Palace of Justice, Parliament Building, Cathedral, and City Hall from the outside. Gold Museum (Museo del Oro): We visit this fascinating museum, home to the world’s richest collection of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts. Among more than 30,000 gold pieces, we witness the origins of the legendary “El Dorado” story. Botero Museum: We see the “plump” figures in paintings and sculptures created in the unique style of Colombia’s world-famous artist Fernando Botero at this special museum donated by the artist. After this full day of discovery, we will have free time in the evening. Guests who wish may sip one of the world’s best coffees in Bogota’s famous coffee shops or dinner is INCLUDED. Accommodation: Bogota 16th DAY: BOGOTA (COLOMBIA) – ISTANBUL Farewell to South America and the Return Journey On the final day of our unforgettable journey through South America’s mystical geography, from Chile’s deserts to Bolivia’s salt flats, from Peru’s ancient cities to the depths of the Amazon. After breakfast at our hotel, we have free time for last-minute shopping and to say goodbye to the city. At midday, we transfer to El Dorado International Airport, Colombia’s gateway to the world. On Turkish Airlines’ comfortable and modern aircraft, we take off for Istanbul at 15:10. During this long flight across the Atlantic Ocean, we enjoy a comfortable night in the sky accompanied by THY’s award-winning catering and rich in-flight entertainment system. 17th DAY: ISTANBUL Return Home After our journey above the clouds, we arrive at Istanbul Airport around 15:30 local time.
