From Tronchetto pier, the last point accessible by vehicles, we travel by vaporetto to the historic island. After an enjoyable vaporetto ride, we begin our tour among the canals, getting off near St. Mark’s Square, the historic center of the city. Here, all the vehicles we are accustomed to seeing in daily life—police cars, ambulances, garbage trucks, municipal buses, and so on—have been replaced by boats in this car-free city. Walking from the waterfront toward St. Mark’s Square, you can see the Venetian prison and the Bridge of Sighs connecting the prison and the Doge’s Palace, San Giorgio Island opposite the bridge, the twin columns on the main façade of the Doge’s Palace square, and the statues on top, symbols of Venice. St. Mark’s Basilica Square was described by Napoleon as “the most beautiful square in the world.” Although the basilica was completed in the 9th century, it took until the 17th century to reach its present form. The four bronze horses you see on its main façade were brought from Istanbul after the Second Crusade. During your free time, you may watch the statues on top of the clock tower strike the bells every hour and climb the bell tower to enjoy a panoramic view of Venice. Guests who wish may also join the optional Murano Island Tour. After the tour, free time. Then we transfer to our hotel, room distribution, and overnight in Venice. Optional Tour: Verona Tour – 50 Euro We see the ducal palace of the Verona Duchy, which remained under the Venetian Republic for centuries; Piazza delle Erbe, still used as a market square today as in the past; and the second-largest amphitheater in Italy after Rome’s Colosseum. Passing through Verona shopping streets paved with marble to show off its wealth, we see the palace where Dante Alighieri lived during his exile. After seeing the Scaliger tombs of the ruling family of Verona, we view the house that inspired William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Optional Tour: Murano Island Tour – 35 Euro per person Murano Island, one of the most special islands in the Venetian Lagoon, has gained worldwide fame for its centuries-old glassmaking tradition.
