DAY 2 AMSTERDAM

After breakfast, free time. Guests who wish may join our Amsterdam Masterpieces Marken & Volendam & Zaanse Schans and boat tour, to be organized as an optional excursion by our guide. While visiting Marken and Volendam, where we can best observe the traditional Dutch lifestyle, you will be deeply impressed by the scenery and the colorful houses lined up one after another. The residents of Marken village, who formerly made their living from fishing, changed their way of life after the island became a tourist destination and was connected to the mainland by a bridge, with handicrafts and traditional clothing production becoming widespread. The houses built on stilts to prevent flooding are still preserved today. We will reach Volendam, which is much larger than Marken, after a short journey across the bridge. In the area, where there are various cheese producers and a cheese-tasting workshop along the way, we will visit a cheese producer and learn about cheese production. After a short free time for shopping, we will depart for Volendam. In this beautiful town, where famous artists such as Picasso and Renoir stayed briefly in the 20th century, you can see many homeowners walking around in traditional clothing. While exploring the town, where fishing still partly continues, you will be able to see historic fishermen’s houses, museums, workshops and shops where handicrafts are made. You will have time for lunch in Volendam, which is renowned for its traditional cuisine. After visiting these two beautiful villages, we continue our tour toward Zaanse Schans Theme Park. This open-air museum, located in the town of Zaandam, was built to reflect the region’s rural life and industrial activities in the 18th and 19th centuries. Famous for its working windmills, the area reflects the Netherlands’ past to its visitors with its traditional wooden houses, workshops and warehouses. After free time in the town, which also fascinates visitors with its natural beauty, we will then take our Amsterdam boat tour. After free time for dinner in the city, we will meet at the time determined by our guide and depart for our hotel. Overnight at our hotel.
